Interview with:Mahbub Morshed [mahbub]
BLOGGING
 | What is your blog address? What subjects do you deal with? |
 | What was it that made you create your blog? On what date did you start it? I use to write from the early age. And as a journalist I have to prepare lots of articles. I always feel that the process we choose to express our view is old. Its all communicating in a one way process. I am talking, writing or expressing my views but the readers are seems to be invisible. So, I was looking for the reader who is interactive and visible in the same media i use. Finally i heard of blogs and created a blog on blogspot (http://mokabela.blogspot.com/) on October 2005. At the beginning I was little confused of writing English language. I knew, Its hard to reach Bangali audience through it. So, I tried Bangla Unicode as my tool of Bangla blogging. But finally there launched somewhereinblog. It is fully Bangla supported blog. I liked it much. I signed up there on 26 February 2006. And started blogging regularly. |
 | What blogging system have you adopted and why? I liked community blogging a lot. Its a pattern of using not the blogging tools but the platform. The bangla writing and reading bloggers gathered here. They write various types of posts and share. So, anyone new or old can easily get here expected audiences they want. Its hard to communicate with a large community which have various interests, some problems occurs regularly, but it created a open and wide communication system one may like it, if he/she has the skill to connect the large audience.
From the blogging tools like blogspot and wordpress i transferred myself to this very system for the sake of the audience. I know, there are people who can hear me, communicate or intercommunicate me, act or react my write ups.
Thats the cause why i choose social/community blogging platform for me. |
 | How many visits a day do you get? What type of comments do you receive? In an average i get 217 visits per day (from 26/02/2006 to 16/02/2009 i got 237898 visits).
There are some comments that supports my causes they usually says, good post, plus, nice... so and so.
But there are some who reacts. They scold me like anything.
But what is really expected, to create a open debate and dialog, happens rarely. |
 | How has 'having a blog' contributed to your life? Life is a big idea. One cannot be sure easily what have contributed his/her life or not at the end of the day. If it means a short span, then i can say it contributed. I found myself very socialized very interactive and what i enjoyed most is being online. Its the easiest way through which i can communicate.
And finally i am about to realize the meaning of the word `hyper-reality'. |
 | Have you created relationships with other bloggers or readers of your blog? Since I blog on a community blogging platform, its easy for me to be connected with the fellow bloggers. Yes I do. I meet them, discuss things etc. |
 | How often do you post? Does regular posting of your blog require a lot of effort on your part? Usually, I blog 3-5 posts weekly.
No. Its the easiest thing to produce a blog post and be published instantly.
Yes, sometimes i prepare some write ups which requires time and research but i enjoy that a lot. |
 | Does blogging bring in income for you? Can one make a living from posting? No, not yet.
I am not sure.
In a bangla blogging platform one cannot add adsense or tools like that easily to earn money. |
 | How do you promote your blog? Before facebook i used to contact friends personally to encourage them visit and read my blog. And suggested them to write blogs. But after facebook i usually post a link on my profile or status with a link of my post. And whenever i get chance i use the print media tools to promote our blogs. |
 | How would you define your readers? Have you got a faithful audience? Readers/viewers/listeners are always invisible communities. Can one portrait a reader? I tried. A reader is always behind a black or gray mask, wearing a sun glass. They buy, browse, downloads, they reads, goes through, took a look. As a writer you are not sure what your readers really did.
As a reader i can say a lot. But as a writer i can say a little.
Do you have any idea to call someone unfaithful when he buys you. |
 | Are there any blogs you follow daily or regularly? |
 | How do you see your blog evolving in the future? We are now about 15 thousand bloggers in the community with a huge audience.
So, in future it will evolve with a larger audience. I administrate a community blog called prothom-aloblog (http://prothom-aloblog.com). Its a enterprise of Bangladesh's largest Bangla daily Prothom Alo. This blog gathered 6,000 bloggers who writes in bangla. So, in Bangladesh we can see a huge percentage of internet users to be with community blogs in future.
Some of them may visit my blog too. |
 | What advice would you give to someone who wishes to begin a blog? Blog is a medium which requires no advice. If one wishes to start blogging he/she has nothing to do with the bloggers who are blogging for a long time before him/her. We are in a age of diversity, in a age of digital democracy. So, speak up. Blog yourself, blog your ideas. You will find it original and be able to attract people. |
