Interview with:Melanie [melanie]
WRITING
What is your favorite genre? Can you provide a link to a site where we can read some of your work or learn something about it? My favorite genre is Mysteries/Thrillers. My post can be searched at www.nanowrimo.com and my handle there for my work is either novelwriter or novelwriter1.
What is your creative process like? What happens before sitting down to write? Sometimes I start with a writing prompt. Other times I read the lesson I am learning from a book. Also I may just read a novel that I am currently in the middle of to finish reading.
What type of reading inspires you to write? I like to read inspirational quotes on the writing process since I am new at it. I find this helps.
What do you think are the basic ingredients of a story? The basic ingredients of a story are a good plot, excellent characterization and finally the story has to keep the readers interest.
What well known writers do you admire most? John Grisham is my favorite author of all time. For medical thrillers I like Michael Palmer.
Does reader feed-back help you? Yes reader feedback helps me because I want to know if I am on the right track.
What discipline do you impose on yourself regarding schedules, goals, etc.? If I am downstairs writing there is no tv for me unless my husband is in the room. As far as scedules and goals I work on my novel on the weekend and I do writing exercises during the week to help me improve where I may be weak.
What do you surround yourself with in your work area in order to help your concentrate? My area is various but there has to be a way to get to my writing books that I think will help me. There is no tv on when I write so I can concentrate. Right now I don't even have the music on.
| Do you write on a computer? Do you print frequently? Do you correct on paper? What is your process? My process is a combination of computer and notebook. CharacterPro and QuickStory are the two programs I use and sometimes I use a third one which is my word processor for a word count.
Everything I do for the most part starts out in a notebook which I keep for future reference. My notebook even includes vocabulary for writing that begining writers should know. |
What are you working on now? I have just started the process. This is the begining of my first novel. It is a mystery/thriller.
