Interview with:Megan Hopkins [mhopkins]
CREATIVITY
How and why did you begin to be creative? Kindergarten and I don't know just loved making construction paper dinosaurs.
Your mind is your work tool. How do you take care of it? I keep it limber and as open as possible at all times.
How do you avoid repeating yourself, or falling into formula? How do you stay fresh? It's a work in progress...
What cultural sources do you draw from the most? Music, food, and life.
Who have your teachers been? All of my friends and fellow musicians. And Google.
Have you ever had a job that was so stimulating that you could not get your mind off of it? Music.
"To give birth to ideas." Is this only an expression, or are there really parallels between giving birth and creativity? I had never attempted music other than in school choir until 2 months after my first (and only thus far) child was born and I wrote my first song. I do not read music and at the time only sang. It is a year and a half later and I have been an apprentice in studio, sell guitars @ one of the local music stores, host an open mic, and can play a decent rhythm guitar. So yea I would have to say there might be a connection. Though I'm no scientist.
Does spirituality contribute to your creativity? Life moves in waves. I take the ups and downs and do my best to make strawberry lemonade ;)
Declaration: With what person or business would you like to work? Grace Potter AND the Nocturnals.
The armchair psychologist: Is creativity an act of rebellion for you? Of course.
What is the best advertisement you've seen recently? Social Networking on the World Wide Web
Do you work well under pressure? Most of the time.
What city in the world currently attracts you due to its creative environment? Torn between Asheville, NC and Burlington, VT
How is an idea sold? I believe that a good salesman sells himself, and when done properly his product will sell itself.
Ideas can come simultaneously to different people in different places with no connection to one another. How do you explain this phenomenon? The Collective Energy
You are as good as your last idea. Wouldn't you like to have a more secure type of work? To be an idea man is to be a multiple basket man. And if you have more than one basket you greatly increase your odds of victory.
