| Have you completed formal art studies, or are you self-taught? I completed formal art studies but being young and stupid I failed to
take any of it in at the time. |
| How did you get your first full assignment? What did it involve? a/40th portfolio showing someone finally gave in to my charms
b/Panic, self-doubt, lots of cutting out and glueing, more panic, more cutting out,
visit to copy shop, more cutting out and glueing, a bit less self-doubt, PHEW! |
| What past or present day illustrators do you admire most? Past- John Heartfield, Terry Gilliam, Heath Robinson, Hannah Hoch, Steadman,
Alan Aldridge, Boris Artzybashef

| How similar are your current drawings to those you did as a child? They're the same ones |
| What was your favorite comic book as a child? Beano, then Shiver & Shake, then 2000AD |
| Do you have a particular style, or does it vary a lot? Yes it varies between drunk, sober & high on crack. |
| What is hardest to draw? Anything from memory |
| What type of music do you listen to while you work? Anything that's not heavy metal |
| Do you have a favorite work of art? Something from Painting with Nancy I saw as a kid |
| What do you do when a client simply says "I don't like it"? Go round and beat them up |
| What part of your work do you do on paper and what part digitally? Sketch/rough on paper. Sometimes painted wash for background.
Everything else digitally. |
| What research do you do for your illustrations? Library, Google, my extensive book collection |
| Do you have colleagues with whom you share techniques, tricks, ideas, etc.? I jealously guard all my tricks, techniques and ideas.

| Do you have any specific goals as an illustrator? Keep a roof over my family's head and don't die broke. |
| What illustration web sites do you frequent? AOI, and anyone who uses photomontage |
| What are you working on now? Series of ads for Racing UK TV channel |
| What advice do you have for someone who likes to draw and would like to make a living from it? Don't do it! I've got enough competition as it is! |
