CREATIVITY
What is the best advertisement you've seen recently?
The new Pepsi ads! The ones that say, "Wow!" or "Hooray!" or "Pop!" They are so positive and bright and catchy!

ART
What do you do? How do you define yourself as an artist?
I am a fiber artist who uses sewing techniques to create sculpture that looks like sweet desserts.

I would define myself as a happy person who really gets joy from making things.
Your biography in four lines.
I grew up in a very small town in Northern Michigan/Wisconsin. I always wanted a Barbie Birthday cake, the kind where the cake is Barbie's dress. I never got one. I love things that are pink, shiny, glittery, sparkly and reminiscent of childhood.
Do you upload your work to the web? If so, where could we see it?
How is an idea born? For you, what is inspiration?
I get my ideas from a wide range of places. Willy Wonka's Chocolate Factory, the cleaning aisle at Target, Betty Crocker's cookbooks, the bakery in the supermarket... the imagery of all these things play a large role in what I do.

I also love watching Martha Stewart. She is a very inspiring woman. I would say that I am most inspired by her way of being rather than her actual projects. She is strong, smart, and I am amazed by her perfectionism.
When do you get your best ideas?
I think good ideas come to me when I am making a lot of different things in the studio. The more projects I am working on, the more ideas I get. And the more I make, then there is a chance for the better stuff to come out. If I am not making things, then I do not get real good ideas.
Must an artist reinvent him/herself everyday?
I do not think it is necessary for a person to reinvent oneself everyday. How would you know who you really are if you are changing yourself everyday? I think it is important to be open to ideas, take criticism, and let yourself change as needed. But to try to reinvent yourself everyday... that sounds exhausting and a lot like the first year of grad school.
Is art necessary?
yes.
Does it pain you to let go of a piece you have sold?
When I was a little girl I kissed every one of my stuffed animals good night. This is how I feel about my artwork. I just love each piece and want to kiss it good night. But I like seeing them go out into the world. There are more to be made.
What types of jobs do you usually do?
I teach in the arts. I love it.

MUSIC
List three songs that are key to your life.
"Forever in Blue Jeans" Neil Diamond
"Sometimes" Britney Spears
"She Thinks I Still Care" George Jones
