Interview with:

Molly Campbell [mollyc]

BLOGGING
What is your blog address? What subjects do you deal with?
My blog address is http://mollyc-lifewiththecampbells.blogspot.com I am a humor writer. I write about family, current events as viewed through my jaundiced eye, parenting, and aging. I won an Erma Bombeck Writer's Award for 2010. I am also a featured columnist for www.momswhoneedwine.com which is a "Mommy" website with over 197,000 Facebook Fans.
What was it that made you create your blog? On what date did you start it?
I have always been a writer, but I began a journal about two years ago, after major surgery for skin cancer. I journaled the experience for my own entertainment, and formed a "Frankenstein Outreach" group to send the journal to. Friends who read about my adventures with facial reconstruction urged me to start blogging. The rest is history.
What blogging system have you adopted and why?
I use Blogspot. It is free, and since I am a writer and need no "bells and whistles," just words, it works for me just fine.
How many visits a day do you get? What type of comments do you receive?
I receive around 2500 hits per month, but this is growing. I am not a comment seeking blogger, but do get at least ten comments per post. Most are very supportive, and I think my writing is easy for most women to relate to.
How has 'having a blog' contributed to your life?
As a writer, it gives me focus. It has also made me a much keener observer. I so appreciate all the fine people I have met as a result of my writing.
Have you created relationships with other bloggers or readers of your blog?
Absolutely.
How often do you post? Does regular posting of your blog require a lot of effort on your part?
I post one column a week. As a humor writer, I have found that too many posts overwhelm my readers. I would rather have them look forward to my posts than have to "catch up" on them.
Does blogging bring in income for you? Can one make a living from posting?
I don't make money blogging. As a writer, I do have a literary agent, and I would like to publish my work in book form. I know it is possible to make a living as a writer online, but "famous bloggers" are few and far between.
How do you promote your blog?
I give out my business card to any waitress who will accept it. I also am a networked blog on FaceBook. I publish my blog on three blog sites. I use Twitter to increase readership, and my association with www.momswhoneedwine has brought me a large influx of readers.
How would you define your readers? Have you got a faithful audience?
My readers are from all age groups, but I think my faithful readers are women who are raising children, or who have an empty nest. I do have a faithful audience, for which I am very appreciative.
Are there any blogs you follow daily or regularly?
I love www.goodybastos.blogspot.com annsrants.com www.pettywitter.blogspot.com
Have you ever received gifts for blogging about your opinion of products or services? What do you think of bloggers who do that?
No. I have no opinion of bloggers who do that. To each his/her own.
How do you see your blog evolving in the future?
I would love to get thousands of hits a day. I am working on that by contacting each person in the world, one by one.
What advice would you give to someone who wishes to begin a blog?
Get started, be consistent, and don't stop. Having a successful blog is a full time job.
