Interview with:

Nicolas Bilder [nbilder]

ART
What do you do? How do you define yourself as an artist?
Art is a path. You will not see highways, signs, ads or rebates on this track. I started to draw on brushes on iPhone and iPad and I am slowly walking towards real paint. Or I will mix them. I do not know. I learn every second something new.
What is your message?
I do not have a message. Dive yourself if you need any...
Your biography in four lines.
I collaborate with les-Souffleurs.fr since 2001. I do movies, write scripts and go more and more towards paint.
Do you upload your work to the web? If so, where could we see it?
A part of it can be seen on twitter, search for nicobild. Or here : effractions.free.fr
How is an idea born? For you, what is inspiration?
I give some freedom to my hands and I wait.
What role does technology play in your creative process?
Technology is a tool you get and put back as far as you need.
What is art?
A kind of soul expression even if I remain unsure about souls...
When do you get your best ideas?
At morning, between 5 and 7 AM.
How do you evaluate whether an idea is good or not?
My heart keeps resonating with it.
Three creative ideas that you would have liked to have created?
The coal for sketching, the feather for writing, the brush for painting but this not a question about Art.
When and how did you begin to see yourself as an artist?
Recognition even from few is enough when it is sincere.
Why do so many artists and creators have such volatile personalities?
They do not belong to themselves.
Do you consider yourself postmodern?
Postmodernism will be buried after all, these distinctions are useless.
How should a work of art be evaluated?
Recognition and possession desire grow side by side. Silliness too.
Must an artist reinvent him/herself everyday?
Supermarkets often change places for their goods. Artists can do the same if they like to increase their sales.
Which artists do you admire and how do they influence your work?
I like Picasso, Bacon, Klein, Kandinsky, their influences are permanent and mixed. The list is not closed.
What do you think about public funding for the arts?
This is the best way to prevent private collections from retrieving all Art pieces.
Is art necessary?
To me, it is more and more obvious. I could not tell about the others.
Does it pain you to let go of a piece you have sold?
No.
Is a work of art purchased, or is it better said, that it is the artist who is bought?
I am sorry but how could you buy me ? I do not sell myself.
In art, there is no guide. How do you know what the next step is?
I know more and more when it is time to stop.
How do you feel about the fact that the pieces exhibited in contemporary art museums are often of artists already deceased?
Life and museums are conflictious.
What role have the figures of art dealer, gallery owners, representatives, and intermediaries in general played in your career?
I am a beginner. I do not know any of them.
What types of jobs do you usually do?
Filming, editing, writing.
Which of your jobs or tasks do you most enjoy?
I do not enjoy less any of them.
Do you personally collect any items?
No
Which websites do you frequently visit?
www.poezibao.typepad.org
What advice would you give to those just beginning?
Be yourself even if it takes years.
