Interview with:Nevil Kapadia [nevilk]
COACH
 | What types of coaching do you do? Who are your clients? Coach people to start up and run their own home based business in nutrition.
Clients are anyone who has the drive and self discipline to become their own boss, with a desire to achieve success. |
 | Can you provide a link to a site where we can get to know more about you, the type of work you do and/or the place where you do it? |
 | How did you get into coaching? Started out by answering a small online ad for a work-from-home business. This developed into an amazing journey of self-discovery, where I realised my strengths lay in hekping others to achieve their goals. |
 | Do you have innate qualities, or is it something that you learned? Everyone is born with some main strengths, and through time and a willingness to be open minded you can unravel those strengths. Then it is a matter of continually developing and learning new skills to complement your strengths. |
 | Can you describe briefly the technique or methodology you use? When a prospective candidate answers an ad or I personally speak with them, the next step is a short telephone or 1:1 interview to find out their dreams and aspirations.
Then it's an invite to a training day, from which they are continually mentored to build their business. |
 | When the coach is confused or lost, where does he/she find a guide? Your mentor or anyone else in the organisation. We all have a resposibilty to help each other, and the ethos of sharing what we know is a fundamental to our growth strategy. |
 | What must the person you are helping contribute? Honesty, great work ethic, desire to learn, patience, a big 'why' |
 | What motivates someone to work more efficiently? Immediate results and then testimonials from others that relate directly. Continuously hearing the same advise from different people reinforces the best behaviours. |
 | How do you work on the emotional plane? I have a qualification in NLP and that helps me to understand the different personalities and how each one deals with a different situation. I teach this to my team and the organisation also has a training system to teach everyone how to respond and support people in different emotional situations. |
 | Can positive thinking can be developed into a habit? Absolutely! hardly anyone goes through through their early life knowing about positive thinking, so it has to be learned. Continuously reading and listening to personal development material and surrounding yourself with positive like minded people is the key. |
 | How does one learn to listen? Train yourself to be in the moment. That way you do not think ahead during a conversation. Also, I found that looking directly at a person focuses my atention on their words. Do not interrupt, and in fact, leave a pause at the end of their sentance, to allow them to continue. |
 | How do you define the concept commitment? What importance does it have in the development of a person? Without commitment there is no point in doing anything as the end result will not be what was expected or desired. Commitment also builds a strong character and leads to other positive habits.
Concept in commitment is staying focused and pushing through challenges in reaching your goal- it's about staying true to your future. |
 | Both of the following are necessary, but how are dreaming and realism balanced? You absolutely need a dream to get you moving, as it is in the future so cannot be realised as yet. the dream needs to be something big enough to feel it emotionally and for you to have it t the front of your mind daily.
Realism, is what you believe. When we dreamed of landing on the moon there was no evidnce to support it and certainly nothing to look back on.
In a more useful context, realism comes into the euation when we have seen others achieve what we want to. |
 | Is it necessary at times to reorient a person’s desires and expectations? Yes, as we all can get distracted. Also, circumstances can change. |
 | Discipline and creativity: are they two forces in opposition, or are they complementary? Everything in opposition....so says world reknown business philosopher Jim Rohn. You can't have love without hate, good without eveil, so why think any different here?
The real challenge is not to have each one in the conscious at the same time and just let your self go in your flow...that will create the discipline. |
 | What are your personal relationships like with the people you work with? Fabulous! In my organisation and interacting with other organisations, we are all focused on a common theme of becoming better people and helping others, so it's a win-win situation. the more we help each other the more we grow individually and as a team. |
 | What is usually the main obstacle your clients face? Fear of taking responsibility of their own actions. When someone takes the step from working in a job, where they are given rules and someone will hold them accountable, to becoming their own boss, there is suddenly the realisation that nobody will hold them accountable for their actions apart from themselves.
This is why personal development is crucial to a business owner's success. |
 | How do you know if a challenge is the right one for a person? Through a series of conversations we get to understand what motivates each client, what has been a challenge in the past, their fears, strengths and weaknesses. As a coach and mentor we can often see what lies ahead before they can, so we are able to steer them in the best path. |
 | When the coach is confused or lost, where does he/she find a guide? Who is the coach of the coach? Always seek advise from someone who has been there and done it. And in our company, there are hundreds of such people just willing and waiting to be asked to help. |
 | Can an excess of self-esteem be the worst obstacle? Self-esteem is great for building confidence and moving through challenges. Ego is something totally different and that is what becomes an obstacle.
Humility, self awareness, appreciation of self and others are the tools to use. |
 | How do you recommend selecting a coach? Should it be someone who has followed the path that he/she wants to? Should it be someone they admire? A coach should be someone who knows where to go for the answers, not necessarily someone who has done it all. They should also form a good relationship with you, and in the end, it is the gut instinct that will tell you if you can work together. |
 | If someone wants to initiate a self-transformation, what general advice would you give him/her? Make sure you absolutely, definitely want to make the change, otherwise you will fail. My adopting this 'have already done it in my mind' attitude you will seek out and create all manner of opportunities aligned with your goals. |
