Interview with:Niche Interiors [nicheinteriors]
DESIGN
What is your specialty? Niche Interiors offers interior design and decorating services in the San Francisco Bay Area, specializing in contemporary and sustainable design solutions for the urban home.
Where can we view your portfolio online?
What made you interested in design? I've always been very visual. I started off with an interest in fine art and painting, but was looking to use my creativity to solve problems and work with people. Interior design was the perfect fit.
What has been your professional career path? I have a Bachelor's Degree in Design from U.C. Davis 2000. I shifted my focus to residential interiors in 2005 by attending the U.C. Berkeley extension program for Interior Design. After working under two notable San Francisco designers, I branched out on my own forming Niche Interiors in 2007.
Have you received any awards for your work in the field of design? Not yet, but we are just getting started! :)
What is your motivation? What makes you get up in the mornings? I get the biggest satisfaction from seeing my clients delighted with and comfortable in their distinctly new surroundings.
How would you define your design style? Contemporary, eclectic, modern. I don't have a "signature" look, since each client has a different personality and aesthetic.
How do you promote and move your work? Word of mouth from happy clients is always the best promotion! After that: Google.
In which new areas would you like to experiment? I am looking forward to designing more children's rooms in the near future.
List some things you dislike seeing in design. Frilly, extravagant touches.
Which professionals in your field -contemporary or past- do you most admire? Vicente Wolf, Clodagh, Eileen Gray, Mies van der Rohe...
