BLOGGING
What is your blog address? What subjects do you deal with? My blog at http://alienus-kairos.blogspot.com deals with exploring my sexual side as well as expressing my feelings on certain subjects.
What was it that made you create your blog? On what date did you start it? I had been blogging on MySpace for 2 years and I felt restricted by not being able to really say whatever I want to because I had a high-profile job and I knew some people on my friends list could not be trusted to not tell others. I started a blog on June 30, 2008.
What blogging system have you adopted and why? After confiding in a friend about my desire to truly blog about anything, she steered me to Blogger with assurances that my identity would be kept secret on Blogger. With the mask of anonymity in place, I felt free to say whatever I wanted to and show whatever I wanted to.
How many visits a day do you get? What type of comments do you receive? I wouldn't really know how many visits I get, but according to my profile, I have had 3,800 visits in 14 months since I created my blog account. The comments vary wildly, but the visitors know I have a sense of humor and they like how I speak my mind.
How has 'having a blog' contributed to your life? I was quite surprised to see how this had contributed to my life in different ways. I told few friends about the existence of this blog and they have been overwhelming positive and supportive. This also increased my awareness about myself and other people (who have expressed their feelings on some of my posts; even e-mailing me to let me know) and most have expressed their respect for me because I have been willing to bare all and/or have an open and honest communication channel with my wife (I tell her everything). Also, I have come to appreciate Blogger because I have become friends with a few bloggers away from Blogger.
Have you created relationships with other bloggers or readers of your blog? Yes, that was surprising to me because I did not expect that (making new friends) when I started using Blogger. Two have become close to me.
How often do you post? Does regular posting of your blog require a lot of effort on your part? At first, I didn't adhere to a schedule due to exploring the sexual side of myself. Then I realized that I had a devoted following in MySpace because I posted regularly, so I started doing so around September/October '08. No, it doesn't require much effort to post regularly because I developed a discipline for that during MySpace days.
Does blogging bring in income for you? Can one make a living from posting? My blog isn't set up to bring in income for me or anyone, but one of the readers have encouraged me to set up another blog that is completely different and configured to help supplement my living. She believes with all of her heart that I would develop a larger base of readers/followers and I would do okay financially from this new venture.
How do you promote your blog? In various ways...I put up an announcement on Twitter, post teasers on Facebook, and comment on other bloggers' posts (common courtesy dictates that you leave a comment on a blogger's post when that blogger has commented on your post). I do not tell my friends in real life because I know they will look if they want to.
How would you define your readers? Have you got a faithful audience? Haha...my readers are interesting, to put it mildly. Some of them have personally contacted me because they are interested in learning more about me. I don't blog to get "more followers"...I know there are bloggers out there who have 10x or 100x the number of followers that I do. I like knowing that I have a small but dedicated audience.
Are there any blogs you follow daily or regularly? I do follow certain bloggers, but I don't always do so regularly due to time constraints now and then.
How do you see your blog evolving in the future? It evolved big time within 4 months of inception and it took a little while before I found my groove and settling into it. In other words, my alienus-kairos blog will remain true to its goal - to explore my sexual side.
What advice would you give to someone who wishes to begin a blog? Know what you want to blog about, stay true to that goal, and don't worry about how stupid you think you look/sound when you write - there will always be someone out there who likes what you write.
