Interview with:Bradley B. [omgbradley]
MUSIC
What do you do? What is your musical specialty? I'm a pianist--classically trained, but I can sight read anything. Check out my YouTube channel, http://www.youtube.com/omgbradleyy for some cool piano covers! Also, find me at http://www.twitter.com/omgbradley
Do you work alone or in a group? If in a group, who are the others you work with? I usually work as a solo artist, but I'm open to working with groups or with vocalists/other instrumentalists.
Is there a web address where one can listen, see, or read some of your work? Yes! http://www.youtube.com/omgbradleyy and http://www.twitter.com/omgbradley
Please list any awards, competitions, or other acknowledgments you would like to mention. Ah, I've won a ton of piano competitions and scholarships. <3 music!
Please list discography in which you have participated. Only my senior piano recital, so far. But I'm looking to make my own album at some point! Also open to collaborations -- hit me up at http://www.twitter.com/omgbradley!
How did you begin making music? Who introduced you? I began taking piano lessons as a six-year-old.
What was your musical education? I was classically-trained on the piano for 10 years.
When did you realise that making music could be a way of life for you? I've always had the hope!
What is your creative process? I find things that I like, and then just start playing!
When do you have your most lucid moments, in the morning or night? Definitely at night! NOT a morning person!
Have you ever awoken with a melody created from your dreams? I haven't really composed any of my own music yet.
How do you know when a song is finished or needs no more changes? I know it's finished when there are no mistakes. I'm a perfectionist! It's a blessing and a curse. Ha, ha.
How did you discover your creative territory? How would you describe it? Ahh, it's kind of hard to explain. It's just a part of me--music, that is. I don't know where I'd be without out.
What part of your job is your least favourite? Definitely promoting myself--I'm terrible at that!
How often do you practice? I used to practice every day when I was younger--I've recently started back on a daily basis.
How do you feel right before going out on stage? Nervous! But it's a good kind of nerves--I thrive under pressure. I'm nothing without it!
Which musicians or groups have been inspiring to your career? Hmm, so many. Justin Timberlake, Janelle Monae, Kelly Clarkson, Carrie Underwood, lots of classical musicians--really, anybody who loves music and puts their heart into making their own.
List three songs that are key to your life. Amazing Grace; You Are Not Alone; Home Sweet Home
What should be done to stop piracy? I think piracy is a terrible thing--it not only steals from the artist, but from all of the regular people involved in the creative process as well--all the way down to the people who work in stores trying to sell music albums. Laws against it should be strictly enforced.
What type of music do you detest? I hate the "honky-tonkiest" of country; metal; most rap.
What time did you get up this morning? Ha! 12 noon.
How do you sell yourself? What has been your experience with record companies and representatives? I don't have any experience with record companies or representatives yet, but I'm doing my own marketing through YouTube, Facebook, and Twitter.
What other things have you done to make a living? I've worked in retail, and I'm currently in law school.
Have you ever played on the street or in the subway? How much did you collect each day? No--but I would love to!
Who would you play with, without a doubt? Kelly Clarkson! That's a dream of mine--also, Carrie Underwood. There are others, but those are the top two.
What advice would you give to someone starting out in the business? Be prepared to work--hard! And never give up, even when you really, really want to--believe me, you'll go through those times.
