Interview with:Kristin LeAnn [onceuponatimephotographync]
PHOTOGRAPHY
Do you have an online gallery where one can view your photos? Yes, on our Facebook page (facebook.com/KristinPagePhotography) as well as on our website (www.onceuponatimephotographync.com)
For how long have you done photography? How did you begin? I have always been fascinated with photography and cameras and grew up around them. It wasn't until 2010 that I decided to start my own business. In 2012, I changed the name of my business and have been marketing more in order to get my name out there.
What has been your education as a photographer? I am 90% self taught and 10% class taught. I went to a community college and got a certificate in Web and Graphic Design which allowed me to dabble in photography classes as well.
Please list any awards for your work. I hold Second Place in a photography competition with the subject matter being "why" For the contest, I took a photo of a gas sign at sunset answering "Why are gas prices so high?"
What is your favourite type of photography? I've always been drawn to beautiful things - sunsets, flowers, etc... but lately as I've started my business, I find beauty in people instead: engagements, weddings, maternity, and newborns.
What do you try to express through your photography? I want to capture feelings in my photography - if it's a couple in love, I want to be able to see how they want to spend their lives together. If it's a newborn, I want to look the looks of adoration in the parents' faces.
What type of preparation do you do before undertaking the photo session? Every client receives a questionnaire and a contract so I can get to know them better and each party understands exactly what is going to happen.
Canon, Nikon, Fuji, Sigma, Olympus, Sony, Pentax...which do you place your bets on and why? I love Nikon and it's what I shoot with. If I didn't have a Nikon, I'd have a Canon. Won't go near any of the others....
Describe your current equipment: cameras, lenses, computers, accessories... Nikon D3100 camera, 18-55 lens, 55-300 zoom lens, 32GB 10 speed memory card, UV filter for each lens, Macbook Pro, Adobe Creative Suite CS5 for editing.
Do you consider yourself more technical or more artistic? Although I'm good with the technical stuff, my strengths are definitely artistic.
How does one develop the instinct of knowing when to press the shutter release button? I don't think you can 'develop' an instinct. As with many things, you have to have some natural talent. For instance, for years I took tumbling lessons hoping to improve. However, so help me, I can't even do a forward roll.
