Interview with:PENNY CANDACE BENJAMIN [pennycandacebenjamin]
WRITING
What is your favorite genre? Can you provide a link to a site where we can read some of your work or learn something about it? I love fictional romance, historical, and suspense.
What is your creative process like? What happens before sitting down to write? I usually have a story that replays constantly in my mind before I ever sit down, then when I writer I find it just plays out like a movie in mind.
What do you think are the basic ingredients of a story? "Passion". Not the passion that is required for a love scene, but that too can be a key ingredient, what I am talking about is the authors own passion for writing. I honestly believe that if an author infuses passion into what he or she is writing it will captivate an audience.
What voice do you find most to your liking: first person or third person? Definitely third person, I like to have the story play out in my mind like a movie one I am watching not acting in. The use of the word "I" is strongly over-rated in my opinion.
What well known writers do you admire most? I have many. But it was the writing of Virginia Henley and Catherine Coulter that hooked me, when I first started reading.
What is required for a character to be believable? How do you create yours? Depth. I create a background to make the character believable.
Are you equally good at telling stories orally? Only to my children, but then to them, at least until they reach a certain age, I can do no wrong.
Deep down inside, who do you write for? Me. When I first started writing poetry it was a way to relieve stress, now I treat it the same way, although what I have to write no longer fits into a poem. Although it would be one of my greatest pleasures to have by manuscripts in print, I am just as content to have them on my laptop where I can read and re-read them whenever I please.
Do you write on a computer? Do you print frequently? Do you correct on paper? What is your process? I write pretty much non-stop when I sit and when I am completed I have a family member read it before sending it off to my editor.
