Interview with:

Petunia [petunia2009]

JOURNALISM
What is your specialty? What subjects do you deal with?
Currently as community based journalist I write about anything from health related issues to a granny who is celebrating her 100th year birthday.
In which media do you presently work or have you worked?
So far only print media - newspaper to be precise.
What is "news"?
It is mainly what make the headlines or prime time bulletins today.
To you, what is objectivity?
Stating only facts without taking any sides.
What is the best headline you have ever read?
Who's fire is it?
What headline would you like to see printed one day in the newspaper?
Food price is coming down until further notice.
Which paper do you buy on Sundays? Where do you read it?
Sunday Times in my living room after church.
Does freedom of expression end where the editorial line begins?
I don't think so it should start where the editorial line ends.
Do you feel that analytical and investigative journalism is being lost?
Yes to certain extend...just because government advertiser with you doesn't mean you can't nail down corruption
With a camera on every mobile phone, is every citizen becoming a correspondent?
Not really - journalism is a profession and should be treat as such. If i give you a good advice doesn't make me a psychologist.
How would you explain the boom of the tabloid press?
Sensational.
What is your position regarding the right to privacy of famous people?
What Obama had for breakfast doesn't really interest me - famous people have right to privacy.
What can you teach us about the art of the interview?
Understand your subject and be a good listener.
Please list well-known people you have interviewed.
Every ordinary individual I have interviewed thus far they are indeed well-know in their own right.
Would you say the journalism blog is revolutionizing the profession?
I think so because daily newspapers don't always have enough space for great stories/ideas we want to share.
Will the paper press disappear?
Not in this lifetime - technology is not a threat at all.
What are your thoughts of the free papers distributed in cities?
It is mainly for advertising with not so good journalism.
What is the book you would like to write?
The story of my life.
Is there a motto or ethical principle that clarifies your decisions in moments of confusion?
I always strive to do what is right even though it is not a popular thing to do.
What advice would you give to someone who has just left university and wishes to start in the profession?
It is never really about seeing your byline in the best newspaper but at the end of the day is your passion in what you do that will sustain you.
