 | What is your specialty in multimedia? I try to find out how to combine all the new ICT possibilities nowadays can be used in day to day life. Partly because of my job, but mainly because I am interested. And I love it to solve problems if I can by doing the right new things by using new possibilities |
| Do you have a website or blog where we can see something of your work? The reason why I am asked by twitter to do this interview I guess is the fact that I made an iBook called "@astro_andre". This is about the Dutch astronaut Andre Kuipers who is in space in the International Space Station for 6 month. This book is about his trip and mainly based on his pictures from space which he sends by twitter. The book can be found in the bookstore of iTunes and is an free iPad only publication. | What has been your career path? How have you arrived to the point where you are? What did you do before? The book I made is just a hobby project and not a career. My job is CIO in a Menthal Care Hospital organisation in the Netherlands (http://www.ggz-nhn.nl)
The fact that I started making the book is that Apple announced TexTbooks and the Ibook Author application for Mac and I believe in this kind of new books and wanted to find out for myself how it works, just like a lot of other things in the past years. The fact that I had to find a good subject for a book and I like astronauts and rockets and we had a Dutchman in Space was a perfect combination. The rest is history.... |
| What types of clients do you have? How do they find you? The book is re-published and updated say every 2 weeks in the bookstore based on new pictures and background stories and actual news. The book is mainly in Dutch and has now more than 800 downloads from the start on february 12th 2012. The statistics say that most of the downloads are from The Netherlands which is obvious. Besides that it is downloaded from other stores in Belgium, Germany, USA, France, Spain,UK, Luxembourg, Greece, Denmark.
To get attention for the book I mainly use twitter which is also connected to my Linkedin connections. |
| How did your interest in multimedia technology begin? Just by doing it combined by technology boost and job |
| Please provide a brief description of the hardware and software you currently use most. I was always a fan of Microsoft Windows. But once the iPhone 3G was there and could be connected businesswise to an Exchange Server my Apple ECO-system grew with the new possibilties of Apple. So iMac (intel based), iphone 4, iPad2 and AppleTV. In day2day life working on Thinclient with windowsbased Citrix environment and mobile on iPad and iPhone (a lot) |
| What parts of your work are the ones you enjoy most and least? To be creative! In everyway. To solve problems or to make nice things. And to work with people to get things done in a nice way. |
| Technology and art - a collison of the left and right brain? Closing the cap I would like to say. |
| Do you usually keep an eye on the work of your competition and analyze how they have done things? Looking around what is going on and what things are possible and to get inspired. |
| How do you learn new techniques? Manuals? Tutorials? Trial and error? Trial and error |
| What new technologies are you experimenting with now? iBooks and all the new things for me what can be done on a Mac. (I was a windows user so I have to find out basic things still) |
| What technology or phenomenon do you believe will revolutionize the sector in the next few years? mobile computing, Cloud technology, higher speed of datatransfer, consumerization, mobile paying |
| Does it irk you when something new makes what you've already learned obsolete? part of evolution |
| You spend many hours in front of screens and in dark rooms. How do you compensate for that on a personal level? by doing other things in fresh air like biking or walking |
| If you have to hire an assistant, what qualifications and qualities do you look for when making your choice? that he/she has additional skills compared with me and 1+1=3
And that we level on personal communication and has enough humor, energy, creativity and wants to work hard and make a difference |
| What types of professionals are you used to collaborating with, sharing experiences with, or forming a team with? all kinds because a good team should consist of several personalities |
| What professional publications or portals do you follow regularly? general news sites, ICT news sites, healthcare sites, social media sites and because of my book spacecraft sites like NASA and ESA |
| What advice would you give those who want to break into this profession? Follow your heart and intuition and just do it! |
