WRITING
What did you first read? How did you begin to write? Who were the first to read what you wrote?
Book, short stories and mills & boons were my first line up of books.Utilizing the Visual Auditory and Kinesthetic abilities that i possesses, the attitude to approach every intricate topic with the 'End in Mind', i have learned write about everything and everyone i come across in life. I am confident that with my God given talents,I will be able to make a substantial contribution to the world of writing which in turn will positively benefit readers who reads my poetry, short stories and Cook Books i write. My family, professors, teachers and friends were my first critics.
What is your favorite genre? Can you provide a link to a site where we can read some of your work or learn something about it?
Yes ,i am avid blogger and you can find my English works in this link www.dreamzru.blogspot.com and my malayalam language works , in www.sapnaanu.blogspot.com
What is your creative process like? What happens before sitting down to write?
I have credited my writing skills to my aunt Leelamma J Enniriyil, from whom i may have inherited the writing talents. She has published 3 novels in 1950’ sadly passing away at a young age. My dad,Thomas Jacob too kept a literary diary and written scrap books & articles on wide range of topics..I rarely sit down with the intention of writing on a particular subject, but some material i come accross or experience triggers a series of thought processes which takes the shape of a poetry or an article.I hope that my writings sparkles with my dreams as my name suggests.'How We Write' is a thoughtful and admirably lucid attempt to explain the mental processes involved in the activity of writing is next to impossible.
What type of reading inspires you to write?
Lines of poetry written by poets from the middle east and famous lines of shelly and Keats.Any photograph or visual art stimulates and inspires me a lot. From my flickr.com(www.flickr.com/photos/sapnageorge/) in my page you could find many pictures from friends under which my thought process are jotted down.
What do you think are the basic ingredients of a story?
Something that holds your attention to each word written, the essential plot and chracters are the key.If your story is shy on your own developed characters, then its not proper. For novels,it’s the style of writing that's unique which can be depicted as,authors voice. Its usually takes writing a few books and stories to find your author’s voice, but once you have created one, you can move your story to the best sought after writers/authors list.Readers likes to read a novel with a distinctive voice and story line. They feel they’re meeting one of the characters half way through the storyline. The story becomes more alive and helps the reader feel they’re spending time with a friend. It helps them suspend disbelief and imagine the characters as seen fromthe viewpoint of a “real” person.
What voice do you find most to your liking: first person or third person?
Its always the first person but at times, the truth and facts are more visible and honest with the second person narrations.
What well known writers do you admire most?
Among the Indian writers and poets,my favorites are Kushwant Sing,Arundhathy Roy,Shobha De',R K Narayanan.Wilber Smith,Frederick Forsyth,Sydney Sheldon and anyone i can get my hands on.Poets from many languages.
What is required for a character to be believable? How do you create yours?
Honesty,to a large extent and even if its fictitious,it should have life like structure and image which can easily fly through anyone imagination. Most of my stories and character's are my own life and those who are associated with me, through my life.
Are you equally good at telling stories orally?
Yes,i am good at narration and i can make another person understand the difficult of idea or a stroy
Deep down inside, who do you write for?
As a very small child I used to imagine that I was a fairy and i can do anything, twirling my magic wand. But quite soon my"story" ceased to be unnatural/ superhuman and in a crude way became more and more a mere description of what I was going through and the things I saw and people i meet. For a minute these kind of things would be running through my head, like a poem or a stroy or a scene after watching a blog, pictures taken by a friend which they take.It can be seen how these various impulses must war against one another and how they must fluctuate from person to person,my thought process to a paper and from time to time.
Is writing a form of personal therapy? Are internal conflicts a creative force?
