CREATIVITY
 | How and why did you begin to be creative? This strikes me as a ridiculous question. We are all creative from birth. That is how we come to know the world and our place in it. We experience, we learn, we interpret, and we become and do. It's only human. |
| Do you have a ritual like retiring to a lonely place from time to time to cleanse your mind? I need a lot of alone time. Without it, I become easily overwhelmed. My best creativity comes after periods of isolation. |
| It is possible to fall in love with a bad idea simply because it is yours. How do you avoid this? I do not create in a bubble, so I constantly remind myself that I am appealing to an audience. It's also to consult with that audience on occasion, because sometimes people will surprise you. |
WRITING
| What did you first read? How did you begin to write? Who were the first to read what you wrote? One afternoon when I was four years old, my father told me he was too busy to read a book to me. I was so mad about it that I stomped off to my room and decided that I would learn how to read it myself. I was never going to need him to read to me again! With the help of the book "Are You My Mother?", I taught myself to read that afternoon.
Three years later, I wrote my first story, and three years after that I wrote my first poem. I was terribly shy about my writing, so aside from assignments read by teachers throughout my school years, very few people ever read what I wrote. It was only in my late twenties that I began to share my work online. |
| Deep down inside, who do you write for? I think I have excellent taste, so I write for myself. If I like it, I figure that I've hit my mark. |
