Do you have an online gallery where one can view your photos?
of course! You can view my work at http://www.shutterhappystudios.com and my recent favorites at http://www.shutterhappyblog.com
For how long have you done photography? How did you begin?
I was in college when I decided to change my marketing degree to a photojournalism degree and I'm so happy I did. After graduation, I began working with a product studio in Chicago and doing childrens portraits. This is also when I started second shooting for wedding photographers in the Chicago area. It didn't take me long to fall in love with the story telling elements that weddings give to me through creative photography. I started my own photography company in 2005 and have been photographing hundreds of babies, children and couples since!
What has been your education as a photographer?
I received a Bachelors degree in Photojournalism from Southern Illinois University. I believe that the experience I gained in a product studio with lighting and the knowledge I gained from working with seasoned wedding and portrait professionals after college really shaped my own style as well.
What is your favourite type of photography?
My favorite type of photography is raw emotion. I love photographing people and especially when I capture the moments when no one is paying attention to the camera.
What do you try to express through your photography?
I try to express memories through my photography. I want the people I photograph to be able to look back at those images 5, 10, 20 years from now and be able to remember the emotions and how special the moment was.
How do you choose your subjects?
I've always found that the best subjects are those that I could be friends for life with! Being photographed requires trust in your photographer.
Which past masters of photography do you most admire?
I admire Annie Leibovitz. I can remember admiring her photography when I was in Jr. High, before I ever knew a thing about photojournalism. She has an ability to capture the spirit within each person she photographs unlike any other!
