Interview with:

Sian O'Carroll [sianocarroll]

BLOGGING
What is your blog address? What subjects do you deal with?
http://www.sianocarroll.blogspot.com My blog is a personal fashion blog - I mainly post outfits I have worn, pieces and shops that interest me, and photo diaries.
What was it that made you create your blog? On what date did you start it?
I wanted to have somewhere where I could share my interest in fashion, meet people with similar interests, and watch my own style and understanding of the fashion industry develop. I started my blog a little over two years ago.
What blogging system have you adopted and why?
I am currently using Blogger, as I found it to be the best platform for posting good quality, large photos.
How many visits a day do you get? What type of comments do you receive?
On days I post, I get on average 600 views; on days I don't post, it averages around 300. Comments are mostly related to outfits I have posted, with some enquiring as to where I got something, what makeup I have on, or what my opinion on a piece of clothing or product is.
How has 'having a blog' contributed to your life?
It has helped me develop my own style - see what works for me and what doesn't. It has also gotten me styling opportunities, and put me in contact with people who work in fashion in Ireland. I have also made some wonderful friends via blogging.
Have you created relationships with other bloggers or readers of your blog?
Yes, both!
How often do you post? Does regular posting of your blog require a lot of effort on your part?
I try to post every 2 days, but if I am under pressure in college or working a lot, it tends to be less often. Regular posting does take up a lot of time, as it includes taking photographs, editing them, sharing the post on various social networking sites etc.
Does blogging bring in income for you? Can one make a living from posting?
No. I have been offered paid advertising, but I do not like to compromise my blog's integrity or ruin its layout with ads, so I turn most down. Occasionally, if I feel interested enough, I will accept free clothing from companies and post about it. If I don't feel the company fits my style, I do not accept the freebies.
How do you promote your blog?
Via Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr and Lookbook mainly.
How would you define your readers? Have you got a faithful audience?
Definitely, my readers often comment and seem interested in what I post. I really enjoy meeting them, and I am very grateful that they follow me.
Are there any blogs you follow daily or regularly?
Yes. stitchesfabricandsoul.com anouskaproettabrandon.com alicepoint.blogspot.com fashiontoast.com vivaadonis.com fancytreehouse.com stylorectic.blogspot.com paniekscelencja.blogspot.com Among many!
Have you ever received gifts for blogging about your opinion of products or services? What do you think of bloggers who do that?
A few. As I have explained before, I don't accept them unless I am genuinely interested. I think if a blogger accepts everything they are offered, their opinion loses value somewhat.
How do you see your blog evolving in the future?
I hope to improve my photography, and perhaps branch out on the style of posts that I do.
What advice would you give to someone who wishes to begin a blog?
Go for it. Post about what you love, and it will come easily to you. Don't care about followers - if what you're doing is honest and a passion for you, the appropriate readers will come eventually. Do it for you, not for anything else. And quality over quantity always!
