Interview with:

Carrie Beth Buzzelli [skinni39]

CREATIVITY
How and why did you begin to be creative?
I started in 2005 because I had started a yahoo group & wanted to create email stationary to share with my new group. I started with MS Paint and moved up to Paint Shop Pro
Your mind is your work tool. How do you take care of it?
I use special occasions to inspire me.
How do you avoid repeating yourself, or falling into formula? How do you stay fresh?
It's difficult but I start with a new subject & go on from there.
Do you have a ritual like retiring to a lonely place from time to time to cleanse your mind?
I surf the web & look for graphics that give me fresh ideas
What cultural sources do you draw from the most?
Current events and popular subjects.
Who have your teachers been?
mr Whitney was my HS Math teacher he was the most influential teacher I had. He was fun & compassionate and loved what he did.
When you accept a job, how much value do you place on each of the following? Money, creative liberty, visibility, and to work with the best.
I don't worry much about money. I make do with very little. I believe creative liberty is important but very few workplaces allow it. They have rigid standards that they want upheld. Visibility is really only a requirement when you are in a mangement position. You need to be visible so customers & employees are aware of your presence. If you are a team member it's best to be part of the background. I believe working with the best produces the best.
Have you ever had a job that was so stimulating that you could not get your mind off of it?
Yes but my impression of things wasn't necessarily the management's impression because the business eventually closed.
"To give birth to ideas." Is this only an expression, or are there really parallels between giving birth and creativity?
There is nothing like giving birth. Creativity is a totally different realm.
Does spirituality contribute to your creativity?
At times. It depends on what I happen to be working on.
It is possible to fall in love with a bad idea simply because it is yours. How do you avoid this?
Yes it's possible. I start a project & don't like the way it's going so I file it & bring it to light at a later date.
Must someone be the leader or boss in order for a creative team to function well?
Someone needs to be incharge to keep the flow of things. Alot of Chaos can emerge if there is no leadership.
Declaration: With what person or business would you like to work?
I want to work with this executive chef I know. He taught me so much about creativity. he can make so much from nothing. He's amazing.
What criteria do you use when selecting someone to be a part of your creative team?
Attitude, enthusiasm, variety, open-mindedness, ability.
The armchair psychologist: Is creativity an act of rebellion for you?
It depends on my mood. I remember having a member of my group that tried to take over & was sabotaging me from behind the scenes. I made a stat expressing my disdain without having to actually say anything verbally.
What is the best advertisement you've seen recently?
The ones about animal abuse I feel are very effective. I became a donor because of that.
Do you work well under pressure?
I work much more effectively under pressure. If I know there is an urgency then I stay with something. If I know there is time to do something I will procrastinate.
What city in the world currently attracts you due to its creative environment?
Dresden Germany with all the beautiful castles & the scenic vistas are amazing.
How is an idea sold?
You need to get the attention of people who have influence and contacts to help pass your idea to those who can help.
What do you feel when, after two or three years, you see an idea of yours again?
I feel good altho somehow cheated as I wasn't given the credit.
Ideas can come simultaneously to different people in different places with no connection to one another. How do you explain this phenomenon?
Many people can think the same things at the same time even if somewhere else. Inspiration can be felt everywhere.
You are as good as your last idea. Wouldn't you like to have a more secure type of work?
You own personal ideas are what make you who you are. You can't be any more secure than that.
