Interview with:

Sonja, CEO, Sonika Imaging [sonikaimaging]

PROFESSION
What is your profession? What is your title printed on your business card?
I am the CEO of Sonika Imaging/Sonika Imaging Artist Services. When Sonika Imaging was launched in January, 2008, I was working with independent recording artists and other entertainment professionals as a personal stylist/image consultant. Over the years I have also become an online promoter, online tee shirt boutique owner, affiliate publisher, blogger, and amateur videographer, as well.
What did you study and why did you choose to study that field?
For years I worked as a special educator in an urban school system and was therefore used to helping people in my work. After retiring from education in 2007, I decided to follow up on the dreams and ambitions I've always had of working in the music and fashion industry. I became interested in and decided to study image consultation on my own. I found that this profession was perfect for me in that it allows me to use many of the professional skills I have acquired over the years and my interests in fashion and music to help the creative people I love working with in so many very important ways.
What links do you have on the Internet: website, blog, social networks?

When did you realise that your work was being considered important and that it could possibly take you places?
I realized in late 2007, after successfully styling several independent recording artists for upcoming appearances, that people were interested in what I could do to help them with wardrobe and image. Since 2007, we have added other services such as online promotions, music copyrighting, assistance with ASCAP/BMI memberships, etc. important to indie artists and saw the demand for them on the rise!
Which publications associated with your field do you regularly read?
I read lots of fashion magazines, such as Marie Claire, In Style, Essence, Complex, etc., and articles on the internet to keep me updated on the trends and styles for each season.
Have you explored the social networks for professionals online? Are you member of any of them?
I am a member of LinkedIn.
List any credits, publications, competitions, etc.
Member of Cambridge's Who's Who Registry. Winner of "Special Appreciation" 2010 Baltimore Crown Underground Award.
STYLING
What is your specialty as a stylist? fashion, salon, image, objects...?
I am a fashion stylist and image consultant.
What are your clients like?
Our clients are independent recording artists and other entertainment professionals.
How did you begin to develop your talent? Have you possesed it since you were a child?
I have been interested in fashion since I was a child and was fortunate enough to do some modeling when I was in high school.
What is your concept of beauty? Why does it change so much from one culture to another, or from one era to another?
My concept of beauty is what is pleasing to my eye. Which is why the saying "Beauty is in the eye of the beholder" is totally relevant. What I consider beautiful may not be to someone else. That is the reason beauty standards are different from culture to culture and era to era.
Being surrounded by a different style can cause a person to feel different. Can such a feeling transform a person?
Being surrounded by a different style can cause a person to feel different. As they say, "Clothes make the man"! The way you look has a definite impact on the way you feel about yourself. When you look good, you ultimately feel good!
Make a prediction: how long will the fashion of piercing and tattoos last?
I think piercings and tattoos will last forever!

I created my blog, "Curlitalk" to be able to write about the stuff I find interesting in the areas of fashion, music, and shopping.

I love to write, so when I have time, blogging gives me an outlet to express myself!
How often do you post? Does regular posting of your blog require a lot of effort on your part?
I post about 2-3 times per week. Regular posting does require a lot of effort on my part because of all the other responsibilities I have.
