ART
What do you do? How do you define yourself as an artist?
Illustrative web design mostly these days. That's when you make web sites for people but you add art and or flaming chickens and stuff.
What is your message?
You must be relaxed when doing everything you do. If you are stressed or stiff even the greatest artisan will unction as an amateur. Bruce Lee
Your biography in four lines.
Was a Freak goth dude. Met Holly changed my life. Went to art school and learned very little. Read books and learned more. Crawled my way from little gaming artist to third tier gaming artist didn't get paid squat. Got pissed and taught self web design. Now I'm like the god of web design for creatives. I win. Ha ha. Take that you gaming art directors. Ha ha ha.
Do you upload your work to the web? If so, where could we see it?
I upload, I download, I reload, I have a load of work I have to do. I've played Load Runner...
How is an idea born? For you, what is inspiration?
I have no idea how I come up with stuff. I draw from creative things I like and things I see in life. The world inspires me.
What role does technology play in your creative process?
Well now it's getting really big. I used to know what all the buttons did but now there are like to many buttons. I do fine but damn there are lots of cool things I can do now.
What is art?
It's different for everyone. Art to you is anything you think looks cool. I have a masterpiece edition Starscream. I think that's art. Someone wiping his butt with the American flag, not so much.
When do you get your best ideas?
When I see, read, hear or smell great art.
How do you evaluate whether an idea is good or not?
When it looks cool.
Three creative ideas that you would have liked to have created?
I'm working on all three now. Number two is a web comic. Envy is bad. Do not envy other artists for thinking up cool stuff. Focus on your stuff 24 7.
When and how did you begin to see yourself as an artist?
When I started drawing on the sidewalk with rocks when I was 3
Why do so many artists and creators have such volatile personalities?
What we sell at the market is passion. If we were calm boring people who the hell would want our stuff?
Do you consider yourself postmodern?
The art I do is a new art form of art. I think web design as a whole is entering a postmodern era because it is becoming an art form. Am I postmodern? I dunno.
How should a work of art be evaluated?
Composition is important, style is number 2 for me, rendering skill, and lastly if it is a total rip off of another artist.
Must an artist reinvent him/herself everyday?
No, an artist needs to go to work like the construction worker, the teacher and the monkey trainer and put in his/her hours to make the world better and to put mutton on the table.
Which artists do you admire and how do they influence your work?
http://theblackarts.com/links.html Ever eat some crazy french fusion venison thing and wish that all food was that good. Yo know you could learn the recipe... It's like that.
What do you think about public funding for the arts?
I'm all for it. We can't rely on the government for s$%t. We need to train the young. I train like 8 people myself.
Is art necessary?
Look around. You tell me?
Does it pain you to let go of a piece you have sold?
Sometimes, yeah.
Is a work of art purchased, or is it better said, that it is the artist who is bought?
We all have to eat. The artist who is all about the art and dies of starvation is not helping any one. And when the body starts to rot with all the flies and oil paint. Nasty!
In art, there is no guide. How do you know what the next step is?
To try something different.
How do you feel about the fact that the pieces exhibited in contemporary art museums are often of artists already deceased?
I have no idea why so many modern artist kill themselves. It's so arrogant and silly.
What role have the figures of art dealer, gallery owners, representatives, and intermediaries in general played in your career?
none
What types of jobs do you usually do?
websites for creatives.
Which of your jobs or tasks do you most enjoy?
brainstorming.
Do you personally collect any items?
80s Matchbox cars, Transformers, DVDs, Books...
Which websites do you frequently visit?
http://theblackarts.com/links.html
What advice would you give to those just beginning?
You can't make everyone happy but you need to make yourself happy.
