Tristan Jonez [tristanjonez]

WRITING
What is your favorite genre? Can you provide a link to a site where we can read some of your work or learn something about it?
I've read many different types of genres but my favorite would have to be non fiction. You can read my work at my blog, its tristanjonez.blogspot.com
What is your creative process like? What happens before sitting down to write?
Before I sit down to write, I make sure Im comfortable. During the writing of my first book I was always in the bed writing, whether it was right after I woke up or right after I came from dinner. My creative process includes me relaxing. I first see the characters interact in my head like a movie, then I put what I've viewed onto paper.
What is required for a character to be believable? How do you create yours?
I believe your readers have to be able to relate to your characters. I usually think about friends I have or people I've known and incorporate their characteristics into the type of the characters I want to create.
Deep down inside, who do you write for?
Hmm I think deep down inside I write for my mom. My mother inspired me to dream big and put my all into whatever I do. She died before she could see me reach any of my long term goals but I think she would be very happy with the ventures Im involved with.
Is writing a form of personal therapy? Are internal conflicts a creative force?
Yes, writing its therapy for me and its cheaper than a shrink! The things I go through in my personal life sometimes are the foundation for my characters. Its easy to have my life reflect through them, because they sometimes have the strength to do things I wouldn't do. Internal and External conflicts are the biggest creative force behind my writing.
Does reader feed-back help you?
Definately!! It gives me a chance to see what my reader likes or doesnt like and I can build on how to make my writing more enjoyable. I know I cant please everybody but I do try to take the suggestions Im given to improve what I write.
What discipline do you impose on yourself regarding schedules, goals, etc.?
I have so many calendars in my home that its becoming a problem. I always have a deadline approaching, an event coming up or something planned that I need a calendar! I also have two planners and my iPhone scheduler to make sure I stay on point with the things Im supposed to be doing. Along with my characters, i have many other things going through my head, so a calender is very necessary. I try to keep my goals on a time schedule but there are somethings you cant put a time limit on, so I keep any opened mind about goals I want to accomplish.
Do you write on a computer? Do you print frequently? Do you correct on paper? What is your process?
I used to write on my laptop non stop... until It CRASHED!!! Its so much easier for me to type, change my mind and retype than it is to write on paper. I print somewhat a lot but only because it makes my work feel more real when I can hold it in my hand. I do a lot of corrections and rewording on paper, I even use a red pen!
What are you working on now?
Right now Im working on my edit of my first book titled "In the Moment". Im also a contributor to an online magazine, The DAM Magazine (thedammagazine.com). Im in the beginning stages of being involved with another online magazine, The Saucy Report (thesaucyreport.com). When I have the time, I update my personal blog, TristanJonez.blogspot.com
