What do you do? What is your musical specialty?
I am a musician and an educator.
Do you work alone or in a group? If in a group, who are the others you work with?
As a musician I operate as a solo pianist delivering music at special events and functions. I also do a lot of work in ensembles of various sizes and descriptions the principle one being 3jazz - a jazz trio consisting of piano, bass and sax. I am also able to offer a swing band called "Swingthing" which specialises in swing and "rat pack" music As an educator I have worked with countless, sometimes very large ensembles presenting music of all descriptions.

How did you begin making music? Who introduced you?
Parents at an early age.
What was your musical education?
Piano lessons from when I was eight. Music at school, higher education at Hull and then the university of life.
When did you realise that making music could be a way of life for you?
Late teens.
What is your creative process?
It's a constant process. It usually starts with a seed which hopefully grows and blooms.
When do you have your most lucid moments, in the morning or night?
Early morning.
Have you ever awoken with a melody created from your dreams?
A number of times.
How do you know when a song is finished or needs no more changes?
You can always do something to "tweak" a song. It's knowing when to move on.
How did you discover your creative territory? How would you describe it?
Creativity is ever present. The trick is how to release it and for it to happen to it's optimum the head has to be in a good place!
What part of your job is your least favourite?
Writing reports and meetings.
How often do you practice?
Most days if I can.
How do you feel right before going out on stage?
Filled with anticipation.

8.10 am- but usually earlier- late gig!
How do you sell yourself? What has been your experience with record companies and representatives?
Internet presence, word of mouth. Good relationship with record company!
What other things have you done to make a living?
Total music!
Have you ever played on the street or in the subway? How much did you collect each day?
Who would you play with, without a doubt?
Chick Corea Elektrik band - without Chick Corea (not much chance).
What advice would you give to someone starting out in the business?
Love what you do!
