Interview with:

Taylor Ann [vitamintaf]

PHOTOGRAPHY
Do you have an online gallery where one can view your photos?
For how long have you done photography? How did you begin?
I've done it since I was little, when my mom first bought me a film camera when I was 7. Then I just liked taking pictures. I only became serious about photography when I was 14 and realized how much I enjoy capturing moments when they happen.
What has been your education as a photographer?
I have no education as a photographer. Though I do plan on going to Ryerson University for photography when I'm done high school in a year.
What is your favourite type of photography?
My favourite type would have to be scenery. I love being able to capture the world around me.
I also like taking shots of my friends just being themselves.
What do you try to express through your photography?
I try to show the things I love, or do, or people I like or things that interest me and catch my attention.
How do you choose your subjects?
By people, they are my friends or family.
Nature or other things are things that I see and want to take a picture off.
What type of preparation do you do before undertaking the photo session?
I make sure my camera is ready. The battery is charged and I have an extra memory card ready in case.
Do you normally photograph with a purpose already in mind, or do you let yourself go with the flow?
I usually just go with the flow and whatever happens, happens. One a rare occasion I would have a plan, and when I do I still sometimes just have fun with it and go with what feels right and looks good.
Canon, Nikon, Fuji, Sigma, Olympus, Sony, Pentax...which do you place your bets on and why?
I personally am not a fan on Sony. The company is the least helpful company ever. I had a pocket Song pocket camera and when it had an issue they blamed it on me though I took care of that camera like it was my child.

I have a Canon XS Rebel right now, and I ADORE it. So my bets are going to have to go to Canon.
Describe your current equipment: cameras, lenses, computers, accessories...
Camera: Canon Rebel XS
Lens: 18-55mm
I have Adobe Photoshop Elements 8 for my software.
I'm saving up for CS4, and two new lenses. The 75-300mm f/4-5.6 llll & EF-S 60mm
f/2.8 Macro USM.
What software and plug-ins do you use to retouch and manage your photos?
So far I only have Adobe Photoshop Elements 8 for retouching.
Are technology and digital retouching reducing the gap between professionals and amateurs?
No I don't think so because you can always tell the difference between someone who has been doing photography for a long time compared to someone who took a picture for their family birthday party.
Do you consider yourself more technical or more artistic?
I would think I'm more artistic because I haven't had any training and just do what I like to do.
What have you learned about the art of framing and composition?
I've learned that whatever the main thing you are taking a picture of should be the main focus. Though sometimes I purposely do not do that, just for a different feel.
Does photography have the recognition that it should have in contemporary art museums?
I can't say in museumes. Though I can say for schools. I think that drawing or painting or physically making something is focused on. At my school we have a full display case for people's art work, but photographs are never displayed.
