LAW
What did you study? What did you specialize in?
I received my BA in Administration of Justice from Salve Regina College (which is now known as Salve Regina University) in Newport, RI, and my JD was from Western New England College School of Law in Springfield, MA.
What has been your professional experience in the arena of law? How long have you been in the profession?
I have been practicing since 1990 - so I'm entering my 20th year. I started in Hartford, Connecticut, doing primarily property & casualty defense for a small firm, and then in 1992, relocated back to Massachusetts. I've been practicing bankruptcy law since 1997, and doing it almost exclusively since 2005, when the Bankruptcy Abuse Prevention and Consumer Protection Act was enacted.
Are there any links we can follow to see something more about you?
You can check out my website at http://www.mcleodlawoffices.com, and you can follow me on Twitter. My firm is at www.twitter.com/mcleodlawoffices, and my personal account (where I'll be tweeing about anything that interests me) is at www.twitter.com/themcleod.
How do clients find you? Why do you think they choose you?
The internet, referrals from colleagues and referrals from former clients. Generally, I believe clients choose me for my direct approach, my honest answers to their questions, and my dedication to wanting to help them.
How do you sell a client on the strategy you develop for litigation?
I do not consider myself a salesman. A good attorney will respect their client's ability to make their own decisions. My goal is to appropriately lay out all options, discuss all consequences and contingencies which will enable the client to make the best decision for them.
What strategy is usually effective, an aggressive and intimidating one, or one that seeks a reasonable compromise?
There is no "on size fits all" strategy to practicing law. The answer to this really depends on the needs and goals of the client, which varies from case to case.
A video shows the guilt of the defendant, but because it was recorded illegally it is not admissible as evidence and the defendant goes free. Is this absurd justice?
No. This is an example of the justice system working.
What continuing education do you receive in order to keep up-to-date?
I attend CLEs regularly, and I also present at them. I also research and write articles for publications, such as the ABI Journal (American Bankruptcy Institute) and of course, for my blog, which can be found at http://www.mcleodlawoffices.com

BLOGGING
What is your blog address? What subjects do you deal with?
For now, I'm only blogging at www.mcleodlawoffices.com - and I'm primarily discussing bankruptcy and debt related issues, foreclosures, and other matters of interest to people in the insolvency community, and those who may need professionals in the insolvency community.
What was it that made you create your blog? On what date did you start it?
My blog launch in September 2005 - so I'm headed into my 5th year of doing it. I've always been a writer of sorts, having been a columnist for my law school newspaper, so this was a natural fit for me.
How has 'having a blog' contributed to your life?
Having a blog has really expanded my voice, and it's really enabled me to reach out to people I am not so sure I'd be able to reach out to. I will say, I was at a conference earlier this year, and someone from out of state told me that they were a fan of my blog - it's a good feeling to know that you can have such a positive impact.
How often do you post? Does regular posting of your blog require a lot of effort on your part?
Yes, and no. There are times it is easy for my to find topics to write about, and have the time and energy to write about them. I would not say it requires a lot of effort - but it does require some dedication. Knowing that I have readers from all over the country who visit often helps me stay dedicated to it.
How would you define your readers? Have you got a faithful audience?
I think my readers are all over the spectrum. I know that bankruptcy professionals from around the country read it - and I know that people seeking out answers to their insolvency and bankruptcy related issues read it as well.
Are there any blogs you follow daily or regularly?
There are so many, but Calculated Risk which you'll find at http://www.calculatedriskblog.com/ is a definitely one of my favorites. Fellow bankruptcy colleague Jonathan Ginsberg has a great blog at http://www.thebklawyer.com/thebkblog/. Another is Credit Slips: http://www.creditslips.org/creditslips/.
What advice would you give to someone who wishes to begin a blog?
Find your voice - and your audience will find you. And be honest with your audience - admit it when you're wrong - and admit it when you're unhappy.
