How did you begin making music? Who introduced you? My mommy, multi-Platinum, international recording artist, Evelyn Thomas. At a young age, I toured with my mother, dancing, acting and singing on stage and on television in New York, London, Paris, Brussels, and more.
What was your musical education? 2 years of classical opera training, some training in NY as a youth, and on hands experience.
When did you realise that making music could be a way of life for you? I knew when I was young that this would be my way of life. Growing up in the industry sort of makes it's way into the system, and it's hard to shake.
What is your creative process? I like to start with music first, then the lyrics. I then lay what I call a "dummy track" for myself, just to see how the lyrics flow. It's not a final version of the lyrics, but just to get an idea. I listen to that for a long while before I go to studio to record the real song.
When do you have your most lucid moments, in the morning or night? For me it comes late in the day. Mostly after all is peaceful and then I can focus.
Have you ever awoken with a melody created from your dreams? Yes many times. It's surreal.
How do you know when a song is finished or needs no more changes? That's why I do dummy tracks. I know before the final version is recorded.
How did you discover your creative territory? How would you describe it? I really love YAHWEH, so it's simple, my inspiration is from HIM. It's a combination of life and love for sure. Real issues I face, and how to get through them.
What part of your job is your least favourite? Sitting. I hate sitting. It's the worst part of this job. One moment you are so busy, you don't have time for anything, but then, it seems, in an instant, there is nothing. I don't like that.
How often do you practice? It depends. I sing so much, practice is not really necessary, at least not at the moment. However, when I do practice, it's every other day.
How do you feel right before going out on stage? Wonderful! I really can't explain it. Whether it's one person or thousands, it's just an awesome feeling, especially when the fans start to sing with you. It's just awesome.
Which musicians or groups have been inspiring to your career? My mom, Evelyn Thomas, of course. I don't want to get in trouble here, LOL. All the people I have meet like, Nice n wild, Eartha Kitt, Grace Jones, Sylvester, The Commodores, Barbara Pennington, Evelyn Champagne King, Mary Mary, Vickie Winnans, Bobby Jones, and so many more, I thank them for all their encouraging words, I take them with me everywhere I go.
List three songs that are key to your life. The prayer of the Father, our Father (Abyoon Debashmaya) because without it, I am lost. You can't win by Micheal Jackson because it keeps me pushing towards my goal. Miracles by Whitney Houston and Mariah Carey because I know my miracle is waiting for me.
| What should be done to stop piracy? LOL, I don't think anyone can stop piracy. Piracy is something that others think they have the right too. I don't like it, but it's still there, and it may never go away. No matter what is done, laws are passed, or campaigns run against it, it will be a thorn in the side of all industries, music, video, movies, software, etc.
Piracy and stealing are no different, and even the person who does it is just a thief. |
What type of music do you detest? Anything satanic. Yuck!
What time did you get up this morning? 7am
How do you sell yourself? What has been your experience with record companies and representatives? I just show people the music. I have had many good experiences with the record companies, however, I must say, I am still looking for the one company who can get the best out of what I do.
What other things have you done to make a living? I teach karate, and own a transportation company.
Have you ever played on the street or in the subway? How much did you collect each day? No, but I wouldn't count it out.
Who would you play with, without a doubt? Idan Rachel, The Commodores, and Mary Mary without a doubt!
What advice would you give to someone starting out in the business? Be real to yourself, and get a mentor. Be thorough, and choose wisely.
